Layne Gianakos is a 23-year-old community organizer from Connecticut. He first became involved in nonprofit work when he was 13 through GLSEN (The Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) which is an organization dedicated to creating safe and affirming schools for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. He has a BA in psychology from The New School University and formerly worked as an HIV prevention counselor in New Haven.
At Triangle Community Center, Layne is the Young Adult Services Coordinator and is working to build up a new drop-in center for young adults aged 18-25 known as YAS (Young Adult Space). YAS will function as a safe and affirming center for all young adults to receive social support and case management services including housing, employment, support with name-change documents, crisis intervention, and referrals.
In his spare time, Layne is also a member of The Imperial Sovereign Court of All Connecticut where adults come together to play dress up and host social events that raise money for local nonprofits.
