  • Joining Forces Post-Orlando: Law Enforcement and the LGBTQ Community

    Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 04:00 PM
Gateway Community College in New Haven, CT

    About the event:

In honor of LGBTQ Pride month this year, Connecticut’s U.S. Attorney’s Office will present a panel discussion at Gateway Community College to address the evolving relationship between law enforcement and the LGBTQ community. We hope you can attend. We think it will be a meaningful way to mark two important anniversaries and bring key people together for a productive conversation about public safety for Connecticut’s LGBTQ community.

Joining Forces Post-Orlando: Law Enforcement and the LGBTQ Community

    Wednesday, June 28, 2017

    4:00 to 6:00 pm

Gateway Community College, 20 Church street, 1st Floor, downtown New Haven

(Validated Parking at George/Temple Street Garage)

New partnerships between police departments and queer communities have formed around the world in recent years, and particularly since the Pulse nightclub massacre last June. As we mark the 48th anniversary of the Stonewall riots and remember Pulse victims one year later, a panel of law enforcement professionals (including LGBTQ police liaisons from Connecticut) and a nationally known LGBTQ youth leader will explore the current relationship between LGBTQ citizens and law enforcement.  We will identify existing challenges and consider effective solutions in an interactive discussion about the issues surrounding policing policies and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Opening remarks to be given by United States Attorney Deirdre Daly and New Haven Police Chief Anthony Campbell.  The panel will be moderated by First Assistant United States Attorney Michael Gustafson with panelists to include Federal Bureau of Investigation Supervisory Special Agent Michael Butsch, True Colors, Inc. Executive Director Robin McHaelen, Officer David Hartman of the New Haven Police Department, Captain Christopher McKee of the Suffield Police Department, and Lt. Eric Rocheleau of the West Hartford Police Department.

    All are welcome.
