  • LGBTQ Cultural Competency - Monthly Public Trainings

    About the competency trainings:

    TCC has been offering LGBTQ cultural competency trainings upon request to local businesses, social and public service agencies, institutions, and schools for years. The demand for these trainings is higher than ever. Typically, TCC will charge a reasonable training fee to contribute toward the time invested by staff for each training. 

    We believe everyone should have access to this information about our community!

    These monthly trainings are free and open to the public. 

    Reasons you may want to attend one of these trainings include:

    • you or your organization are shopping for an in depth and customizable cultural competency training
    • you are involved at Triangle Community Center as a program leader, volunteer, staff, board member, or attend TCC programs and events
    • you have an interest in being involved with our trainings as a facilitator
    • you have an interest in learning more about and discussing any part of the LGBTQ community

    About Cultural Competency Trainings:

    TCC staff facilitate a training open to the public for free every fourth Thursday of the month. 

    TCC's training outcomes include understanding of the following:

    • Language and definition of terms associated with the LGBTQ community, specifically lesser known identities within the community.

    • Definitions of sexual orientation and gender identity and how the two interact.

    • The LGBTQ experience, hetero-normativity, gender binary, and privilege.

    • Changing our systems, policies, and procedures to be inclusive and non binary.

    • How to be a good ally to the LGBTQ community.
  • LGBTQ Youth Open Mic & Open Studio

    About the event:
    Triangle Community Center's youth programming is hosting an LGBTQ Open Mic for youth performers ages 13 - 25.

    Who can perform or display art: 
    LGBTQ youth ages 13-25

    Sign-ups for the open mic are first come, first serve. Performances will begin at 7:30PM.

    If you would like to bring you art to be displayed, email Katelyn@ctpridecenter.org or call 203-853-0600 ext 103.

    Who can attend: 
    LGBTQ youth ages 13-25 and their friends and family. 

    What can you perform:
    You can perform anything from reading your own pertinent works to works that you feel highlight LGBTQ experiences or accomplishments and important moments from the LGBTQ community. Dance. Poetry. Comedy. Lip-Sync. ET CETERA!

    Want to learn about how to get involved with this year's Pride in the Park? Want to join TCC's Pride family? Come to our third Pride in the Park volunteer meeting on 5/31!

    We will discuss the various roles for this year's volunteers, get to know each other, and enjoy lite fare. Now, more than ever, we need to stand strong and be a community. Pride in the Park is Connecticut's BIGGEST Pride event! Be a part of something bigger.

    Copies of the book will be raffled off. For teens in Grades 6 and up.

    Help turn Newtown and America ORANGE!

    Thursday, June 2, 2016, marks the 2nd Annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Newtown Action Alliance is partnering with Connecticut Against Gun Violence, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Sandy Hook Promise, Greenwich Council Against Gun Violence, the Brady Campaign Southwestern CT Chapter, and the Enough Campaign to turn Newtown orange.

    Over 100,000 Americans have been killed by guns and over 250,000 Americans have been injured by guns since the tragic shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. Newtown is moving forward but Newtown has not moved on. We must continue to shed a light on the epidemic of gun violence in our nation to engage more Americans to make gun violence prevention a priority.

    Please join on June 2, at 6  pm, at Fairfield Hills, for the “Orange Walk” from Fairfield Hills over to Edmond Town Hall, for the #WearOrange Rally. Please #WearOrange and feel free to bring a gun violence prevention poster/sign.

    Pride at Night will feature performances by Trixie Mattel as well as many talented local LGBTQ performers as well.
     
    There is a $15 cover charge for people who buy their tickets online before the day of the event. The cover charge will increase to $20 on the day of the event.
